Tarfest

I will have a new painting in this year's Tarfest, http://www.tarfest.com, which is a great film, art, & music festival held every year in the Wilshire district in Los Angeles. If you haven't gone previous years, definitely check it out this time. It's well worth it.

The Art Program Opening Reception is Friday, October 6th from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. at the Korean Cultural Center 5505 Wilshire Blvd. (next to The El Rey Theater).

If you go to this page you can see a preview of the 60 artists work in the show: http://tarfest.com/art.html

Should be a very lively opening.

LACE in Hollywood

Wednesday I volunteered at this great gallery in Hollywood called Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions. It's right in the middle of all those wig shops & lingerie stores. It's been there 11 years, I think. They had a great opening for two artists, Dustin Shuler & Alexander Apostol.

Dustin's piece was this massive "vivarium" environment that mimiced condidtions in a rain forest. The piece was filled with live animals like tree frogs, lizards, turtles, and a few birds. The whole thing was miked. You gotta go down & see it. In the other part of the gallery was some digitally altered photographs of buildings in Caracas, Venezuela done by Apostol. There were also a few of his video art pieces playing. Good stuff. I'll be down there tonight (Friday) again. C'mon down.

Robert Reynolds Show

I went down to the Downtown Art Walk last Thursday. The standout for me was the Robert Reynolds show at the Continental Building (4th & Spring I think). Inventive use of materials and a diverse selection of pieces. Don't know the hours for the exhibition but, its worth taking a look if you're downtown. My pics don't do the work justice but, here they are.

Downtown Art Walk

Just a reminder. Tonight is the 2nd Thursday of the month so that means it's time again for the Downtown Art Walk. Over 25 galleries participate in this and well attended. It goes from noon until 9pm at most venues. Check out the site for map & more information. I'll be down there tonight seeing some shows. This is LA btw.

Burning Man Art

Just back from BM. Some impressive art there as usual. Certain pieces can only exist in this environment because of the huge space they take up or because hey are so dangerous. This snake by Jessica Hobbs and crew had flames shooting out of each vertibrea and each tooth in it's movable mouth during the night. Wish I had some night pics of it. I've got some pics from the event. They are of friends mostly but there's some good art shots in there. Check em' out.
